Vista will recognize that the cable is there but cannot install the drivers nor download them from the net. The drivers that are available at the RS site and that come with the cable will not work with Vista. This should make it work for anyone else who uses this cable to connect their GPS. I use the USB to Serial cable made by Radio Shack to connect my Garmin GPS. So, I thought I'd post this where it could do some good.
It took me a couple of days to figure this out and Radio Shack still hasn't responded to my email. This is for those that have upgraded to Windows Vista and have found that lo and behold the cable will no longer work with their GPS. I wrote this with my GPS in mind but I think it has bearing on Ham Radio as well.
